A roasting oven includes an enclosure coupled to a source of microwave RF energy, an operable door for sealing the enclosure for RF, the operable door having a viewing aperture which prevents the escape of RF from inside the chamber. A rotating support has an axis which is perpendicular to the viewing aperture such that the progress of roasting may be viewed through the viewing aperture and into a food container placed in the rotating support. The applied power of the microwave RF source and the rotational velocity of the rotating support are selected to provide uniform or wide spectrum roasting of the food item. A roasting profile may include a roasting interval during which the microwave RF source and rotating support are both energized, and subsequently a cool-down interval where the microwave RF source is disabled and the rotating support continues to rotate.

A melon peeler system designed to safely and quickly separate the rind from a melon for consumption. The melon peeler system comprises a melon peeler assembly having a concave base, a horizontal blade, fasteners, and vertical supports. The concave base has a smooth surface and serves as a melon cutting guide. The horizontal blade is supported a user-determined distance above the concave base by the vertical supports and the blade is a small, flat cutting edge sufficiently sharp to slice through a melon but not sufficiently sharp to easily cut a user. Suction cups fasteners located on the bottom of the device provide stability and allow the assembly to be removably affixed to a planar surface of the user's choice.

Particular aspects provide compositions comprising an electrokinetically altered oxygenated aqueous fluid, wherein the oxygen in the fluid is present in an amount of at least 25 ppm. In certain aspects, the electrokinetically altered oxygenated aqueous fluid comprises electrokinetically modified or charged oxygen species present in an amount of at least 0.5 ppm. In certain aspects the electrokinetically altered oxygenated aqueous fluid comprises solvated electrons stabilized by molecular oxygen, and wherein the solvated electrons present in an amount of at least 0.01 ppm. In certain aspects, the fluid facilitates oxidation of pyrogallol to purpurogallin in the presence of horseradish peroxidase enzyme (HRP) in an amount above that afforded by a control pressure pot generated or fine-bubble generated aqueous fluid having an equivalent dissolved oxygen level, and wherein there is no hydrogen peroxide, or less than 0.1 ppm of hydrogen peroxide present in the electrokinetic oxygen-enriched aqueous fluid.

This invention relates to polyester compositions useful for the manufacturing containers that minimizes the effect of secondary contamination during filling. More specifically, the present invention relates to a polyester bottle for use in filling of carbonated pasteurized products comprising at least one oxygen scavenging component that limits oxygen ingress to about 1 ppm or less when measured six months after filling, and at least one passive component that limits the carbonation loss to less than about 25% when measured six months after filing. The present invention also relates to a method of using the polyester bottle to minimize the growth of secondary contaminants in a carbonated pasteurized product.

A method for determining the boundary between abutting food product in a food processing system uses scan data of the food product to identify a perimeter of the abutting food product. Optionally, data from scanning the food product is first tested to determine or predict if more than one article is present. A perimeter of the abutting food product is generated from the scan data, and the perimeter information is manipulated to identify or estimate the boundary between the product. For example, the boundary may be eroded until it separates into two portions. The two portions are then expanded, constrained by the original perimeter, such that a region of interest includes overlapping portion that includes the boundary. The region of interest is analyzed to locate the boundary. In another method, a parametric shape is fit to the image to identify the individual articles. In another method, a shortest line or surface separating the perimeter into two substantial portions is found.

This invention relates to novel enzymes and novel methods for producing the same. More specifically this invention relates to a variety of fungal enzymes. Nucleic acid molecules encoding such enzymes, compositions, recombinant and genetically modified host cells, and methods of use are described. The invention also relates to a method to convert lignocellulosic biomass to fermentable sugars with enzymes that degrade the lignocellulosic material and novel combinations of enzymes, including those that provide a synergistic release of sugars from plant biomass. The invention also relates to methods to use the novel enzymes and compositions of such enzymes in a variety of other processes, including washing of clothing, detergent processes, deinking and biobleaching of paper and pulp, and treatment of waste streams.

A lobster processing apparatus and method that includes a rotatable housing and several stations for extracting meat from a lobster. The housing is a cubic structure, which on each side comprises a different means for cleaning and disassembling a lobster for consumption. These include a vertical cutter device with a retracting blade, a pressure crunching vice for cracking lobster claws, a dual roller system for extruding meat from lobster appendages, and finally a mincing device for processing extracted lobster meat. Below the rotatable housing is an extendable drip pan with pull-out trays and a removable drip collector for spilled liquid. The housing is rotated to align each station above the drip tray during use, thereby allowing each processing station to rotate towards a seated or stationary user. Inside the housing is a means for supplying electric power to each processing device, supplied via batteries or an external A/C power source.

The inventors of this invention have conducted the search for a variety of compounds which may possess a desired CaSR agonist activity to thus find out a substance capable of imparting a kokumi, which shows a more excellent kokumi-imparting effect, in particular, a kokumi-imparting effect of the initial taste-imparting type one, which is excellent in the stability and which can easily be produced at a low cost and the present invention thus provide a kokumi-imparting agent consisting of such a substance as well as a complex kokumi-imparting agent comprising the substance and other substances possessing the CaSR agonist activities in combination. More particularly, the present invention herein provides a kokumi-imparting agent consisting of γ-Glu-Abu (L-γ-glutamyl-L-2-amino-butyric acid) and a complex kokumi-imparting agent comprising the foregoing substance and another substance having a CaSR agonist activity, in combination.

Trophic Conversion of Obligate Phototrophic Algae Through Metabolic Engineering

Most microalgae are obligate photoautotrophs and their growth is strictly dependent on the generation of photosynthetically-derived energy. In this study it is shown that the microalga Phaeodaclylurn tricornutum can be engineered to import glucose and grow in the dark through the introduction of genes encoding glucose transporters. Both the human and Chlorella kessleri glucose transporters facilitated the uptake of glucose by P. tricornutum, allowing the cells to metabolize exogenous organic carbon and thrive, independent of light. This is the first successful trophic conversion of an obligate photoautotroph through metabolic engineering, and it demonstrates that methods of cell nourishment can be fundamentally altered with the introduction of a single gene. Since strains transformed with the glucose transport genes are able to grow non-photosynthetically, they can be exploited for the analysis of photosynthetic processes through mutant generation and characterization. Finally, this work also represents critical progress toward large-scale commercial exploitation of obligate phototrophic algae through the use of microbial fermentation technology, eliminating significant limitations resulting from light-dependent growth.
